Santa’s Christmas Adoption Program
The Santa’s C.A.P. program was actually started in 1985
when it became apparent so many children would not receive Christmas
gifts. Individuals, service and social
clubs, churches and businesses adopt entire families with Christmas gifts and
food during the holidays. As of December
2002, over 2,700 families have been adopted, affecting the lives of 8,500
people. To adopt a family, contact Christian
Helping Hands (281) 485-9776 anytime during October or early
November to be matched up with needy families.
Supplies
Unlimited Can
Create Every
Student’s Success. The month
of May of every year is the end of the school year, but the beginning of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Volunteers begin to collect school supplies
for the next school for Pre-K through 12th grades. Yearly, over 500 students in our service
area receive approximately $ 30 value in supplies. Donations of supplies or monetary donations
designated for supplies are collected to make this program a huge success for
students within a needy household. As of
December 2002, over 3,800 students have received supplies to start the new
school year.
Throughout
the year, the Endhunger Network hosts “red barrel”
food drives, known as “Stop the Hunger” in local grocery stores
throughout the nation. The barrels allow
shoppers to purchase needed nonperishable food for assistance agencies located
in their home area. Christian Helping
Hands is thankful to be the benefactor of six red barrels in the Friendswood
and Pearland communities. Our
volunteers man the barrels to encourage shoppers to purchase pre-sacked items
for CHH, resulting in the collection of thousands of pounds of canned
goods. More information about this
national program is located online: www.endhungerhou.org
The
National Association of Letter Carriers annually sponsors “Stamp Out Hunger”
nationwide. The event has historically
been the Saturday before Mother’s Day.
The letter carriers and postal workers do a marvelous job collecting
nonperishable canned goods left at individual mailboxes. By the end of the Saturday collection day,
they have collected millions of canned goods nationwide. Locally,
between Friendswood and Pearland, they generally collect 10,000 pounds!! WOW!
This is a wonderful blessing. The summer is about to begin. Children are out of school and they are
hungry!! More information about “Stamp Out Hunger” is
available online: www.nalc.org/commun/foodrive/index.html
The
Boy Scouts of America host “Scouting for Hunger” in their area. Christian Helping Hands is grateful to be a
recipient of their fine work. The scouts
enjoy the challenge and are eager to assist the needy as best they can. They too, collect millions of cans
nationwide!!! Watch your local news for
this special event in your area. More information on “Scouting for Hunger” is
available online: www.scouting.org or www.bsa.scouting.org
